House 1 is designed to meet the evolving needs of a family.  The second floor has an open loft space which could be configured as a fourth bedroom (See the second floor of House 2 to view this four-bedroom option).  House 1 can be made accessible for people of all abilities.  The on-grade kitchen (and optional first floor bedroom) is designed to be accessible for disabled visitors, and the option of a future elevator is designed into the structure and floor plan of the house. 

The split-level design between the kitchen/dining room and the living room provides a meaningful separation between these two functional areas while still maintaining a sense of continuity.  This design also creates a dramatic cathedral ceiling in the kitchen/dining area.  This separation can also be opened up if a more open floor plan is desired.
